Cultural Conflict in the Novel "Hotel Europe" by "Farhad Pirbal"

Abstract

The novel Hotel Europa is one of the most beautiful and prominent examples of the era of migration, displacement, and exile in modern Kurdish literature. It portrays the issue of cultural conflict in a profound and multilayered way. The events of the novel unfold within a European mindset and setting. The main character is a Kurdish immigrant living in the heart of a European society in Paris, who faces a kind of conflict between his national identity and the dominant Western culture. This conflict is not only evident on external levels such as language, behavior, and social relations, but also appears in deeper layers like the sense of belonging, self-perception, and the character’s lived experience. Through the use of postmodern narrative techniques, the novel transcends the boundaries between past and present, tradition and modernity, East and West. It exposes and confronts layers of linguistic, behavioral, historical, and psychological conflict. The outcome of this conflict is a form of identity crisis and a sense of alienation in the main character. This article, using a critical analytical approach, aims to examine and explain the manifestations of cultural conflict and its impact on the formation of the immigrant subject by analyzing the cultural elements and narrative structure of the novel.
