New Horizons in Kurdish Studies
This special issue of Zanco Journal for Human Sciences presents a remarkable collection of thirty papers that collectively illuminate the rich tapestry of Kurdish society, culture, and intellectual life. The breadth of scholarship showcased here reflects the dynamic nature of academic inquiry in the Kurdistan Region and beyond.
The contributions span an impressive mix of disciplines, from educational psychology and childhood development to historical analysis, artistic expression, and linguistic studies. Of particular note is the strong focus on contemporary social issues, including studies on mental fitness among educators, workplace spirituality in higher education, and the challenges facing media researchers in Kurdistan's universities.
Several papers break new ground in examining Kurdish history through fresh perspectives, such as the analysis of Kurdish-Iraqi relations through Iranian media and the investigation of the Belbas Tribes' historical role. The arts are well-represented through studies of relational art, postmodern expression, and theatrical performance, demonstrating the vibrant cultural production in the region.
The inclusion of research on educational development, particularly in early childhood education and values formation, speaks to the region's commitment to building strong educational foundations. Meanwhile, papers addressing religious discourse, coexistence, and social services reveal ongoing engagement with crucial societal challenges.
This collection represents a significant contribution to Kurdish studies and demonstrates the maturing academic landscape in the Kurdistan Region. We trust these papers will stimulate further research and dialogue across disciplinary boundaries.
