Types of Irony in the Poetry of (Tal'at Tahir)

Abstract

In literature, irony is identified as a tool of representing a subject or an incident that in appearance has a particular meaning, while has a hidden one on deeper levels. Authors of literary works usually use the first meaning (the external) to reveal the second one; the internal. The present study which is entitled " The Types of Irony in the Poetry of Tal'at Tahir", is a significant academic attempt to identify and demonstrate irony and its types based on the views of international authors. The study will also highlight the historical debates about the definition of irony and its subdivisions into various types; this will make the theoretical aspect. Furthermore, the practical part of the study is manifested by taking advantage from the divisions of the types of irony that have been made and applied to the poetry of Tal'at Tahir, since irony is one of the literary elements that has the most reflection in his poetry. It has been embodied intensively in his poetic texts by utilizing an artistic language. Moreover, after the many political, historical, and social changes and reversions that Kurdish literature went through, Tal'at Tahir has felt the situation of his society as one of the accomplished poets of his time. He has felt that there must be a reformation to bridge the gap between literature, readers, and society.

This article consists of an introduction and three sections. The first section is dedicated to the definition of irony. In the second section the types of irony have been discussed, and the third section represents the practical embodiment of the types of irony in the poetry of Tal'at Tahir. At the end of the research the achieved outcome and the list of references are represented. Then, the abstract of the study has been translated into English and Arabic Languages.
