Abstract

This analytical and descriptive study examines the use and embodiment of traditional rhythms, dances, and melodies in the national music of Eastern Europe. It provides a comprehensive analysis of how these elements are utilized and represented in Eastern European culture, classical music, and Western European musical forms. The integration of traditional rhythms, melodies, and dances was a significant aspect of the nationalist movement that emerged during the Romantic period and reached its peak in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, influencing the music of nations worldwide, particularly in Western Europe.

The scarcity of Kurdish research that explains and analyzes this artistic phenomenon and the approaches taken by international musicians has been a primary motivation for conducting this study. Understanding the experiences and methodologies of European national music schools can be highly beneficial for Kurdish musicians, whose cultural heritage remains under threat due to cultural and political suppression by regional powers and the lack of an independent Kurdish state.

This study underscores the importance of preserving the Kurdish cultural heritage of melodies and rhythms by adapting and reformulating them into new musical frameworks, as other nations have done through their nationalist music schools. Simultaneously, it emphasizes the need to strike a balance between authenticity and contemporary music, enabling the expression of Kurdish national identity through orchestral compositions and presenting the richness of Kurdish heritage to the global audience with dignity and sophistication.
