The Consequences of Climate Change on Environmental Security in Iraq

Abstract

Over the past two decades, environmental issues, especially climate change, have become an important issue in the national security strategy of countries around the world due to its dire impacts on the environment. Especially the countries most affected by climate change. This study addresses environmental issues as a sector of national security. It highlights Iraq's environmental security under the impact of climate change, explaining how human activities in Iraq have become one of the main causes of climate change and a real threat to the future of Iraq's environmental security. The study concluded that Iraq's environment is under serious threat. To mitigate the negative impacts of climate change and ensure environmental security, it is important for Iraq to have an adaptation strategy at the domestic level and at the regional and international levels to benefit from the cooperation of various international actors. To provide an opportunity for developed countries to lead Iraq towards a greener future.
