The Process of Political Decission Making in Kurdistan Region after 2003

Decision-making is a complex and multidimensional process in political science, particularly in the Kurdistan Region. This study aims to analyze the political decision-making process in this region by addressing the following primary question: What is the nature and structure of the political decision-making process in the Kurdistan Region? The research first identifies key political actors, including parties, government institutions, media, and public opinion, and explores the relationships among these actors and their influence on political decisions. Emphasis is placed on the roles of political parties and elites in this process. The findings indicate that the role of official institutions in decision-making is weak, diminishing their authority especially that of the parliament, which is intended to have a significant role but is often dominated by political elites. Additionally, the type of political system and the constitution significantly impact the decision-making process. This study examines the roles of the three branches of government in political decision-making, assess their levels of influence, and focus specifically on the roles of political parties and elites in the Kurdistan Region.
